The expectations of pointing dogs have greatly changed in the last 50 years.  There has been a gradual inclination for breeders to focus on either show looks or field trial potential, especially in the English setter breed.  While some hunting instincts will forever remain in the breed, very few dogs are available that have been selectively bred for their overall effectiveness in hunting wild birds.

Whether you are a weekend warrior or a daily addict, the selection of your hunting partner can make a big difference in your success.

Josh Swaim began the process of providing high-quality english setters from proven hunting stock in 2009 after training under a well-known breeder for nearly 10 years.  He spends a great deal of time in the field annually,  targeting a variety of wild upland birds across the eastern states and the plains.  He selects dogs that exhibit good bird finding skills, natural pointing instinct, efficient gaits, endurance, and willingness to retrieve.  All dogs used for breeding have personally been hunted and tested for effectiveness on wild grouse.  Call to find out about upcoming litters or to make specific requests.
