Guided Fishing Trips
Fly Fishing in North Carolina & Virginia
At Wing & Fly Co, we feel that it’s not enough to just put a rod in your hand and get a fish on the line. Each of our guides are committed sportsmen that truly love the sport and want to help every angler get the most out of their time on the water. At the end of the day, not only do our clients catch fish, but they come away from the trip with a better understanding of fish behavior, casting dynamics, and ecosystem conservation. Oh, it’s also quite common to have a picture of a big fish to match your big grin.

Several times a year, we put together a teaching trip that works out great for both your net and your wallet!
We choose a delayed harvest stream (Oct 1-June 1) and assist a group of anglers throughout the day with fly selection, casting advice, reading water, insect identification, and anything else you may run into. This is a great experience and really works well for those anglers who already have some time on the water, but may not quite have all the necessary flies or are still perfecting their techniques.
Normally, each client gets over an hour of one-on-one instruction. We also provide a terrific grilled streamside lunch, so you will have a gourmet meal without even taking your waders off! The lunch break offers great discussion between guests and guides on what’s working in the stream that day. Spots are limited, but to be kept in the loop, please indicate your interest using the Contact Us page. Limited to 8 anglers total.
Rate: $90/angler or $115/couple or pair
NEXT SHARE-A-GUIDE Trip: TBAA FEW POINTERS BEFORE BOOKING TRIPS:
1) Know your own limitations or abilities. If you’ve never fly fished before, booking a trip for wary carp which may require 50 foot precision casts probably isn’t the right route. On the other hand, if you’ve already mastered the delayed-harvest streams, be willing to challenge yourself on bigger water where the possibility for larger fish can be realized. Be sure to convey your skill level to the booking manager and your guide.
2) Don’t underestimate local fisheries. We don’t mind traveling and hour or two for quality fishing, but many times our best trips are the ones right down the road! If you’ve been neglecting warmwater, you need to take a hard look at your angling skills. Some of the most rewarding fish can be found in many piedmont waters that go overlooked by most fly fishers.
3) Consider the costs of fishing: when you factor in the costs of waders, fly tackle, license fees, and transportation- fishing on your own isn’t free. If your new to the sport or new to a particular type of fishing, hiring a guide is a good investment. While we certainly plan for you to catch fish, please let us know if you’re trying to learn the water or to what degree you want techniques explained. We were all beginners at one time, so don’t feel like you’re cheating by hiring a guide for a day! If we’ve done our job, you should be more confident with your skills and knowledge at the end of the day. We hope you go out and try it on your own!
Our guides will give their best on every trip, using their knowledge and skills to make your day on the water an enjoyable one. Tips are very much appreciated, but certainly not required. Tipping is appropriate when you feel that your guide went above and beyond in order to make your day special or memorable.
